The Changing Behaviour Project

Learning together across Europe

The importance of behavioural change in managing energy demand is recognised by the European Commission.

Manchester is my Planet is working in partnership with academics and energy practitioners from across Europe on the Changing Behaviour action-research project.

The project aims to:

  1. better understand how to achieve behavioural change

  2. test new learning through six 12-month pilot projects

  3. develop a best-practice toolkit for practitioners in the EU

The project is co-ordinated by the National Consumer Research Centre of Finland. It is co-funded by the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme.

Case studies from across Europe

The Changing Behaviour project has collated information on around 100 behavioural change projects from across Europe, featured in an on-line inventory. Further research has produced 26 detailed case studies on significant European behavioural change projects.

Understanding the role of Energy Intermediaries

In the European context of a privatised and de-regulated energy market, ‘intermediary organisations’ play an increasingly important role, operating between national governments, energy suppliers, and energy consumers.

Energy intermediaries have been the subject of extensive research and analysis through the Changing Behaviour project.

The Manchester International Workshop, 2009

In March 2009, Manchester: Knowledge Capital hosted a Changing Behaviour workshop at the Bridgewater Hall, for 60 practitioners from the UK and Netherlands. The keynote speaker was George Marshall of the Climate Outreach and Information Network (COIN). Click here to view his presentation.

In addition to workshops to share and capture practitioner experiences, a panel of experts from Manchester City Council, the Co-op Group, Creative Concern and Low-Winter Sun took questions from the attendees.
